SOPISDEW Cameroon is an apolitical, non-profit, non-religious, non-racial grassroots community based development organization created to empower rural and indigenous communities. Our mission is to collaborate with national and international organizations, institutions, communities, and individuals in the process of poverty alleviation, through the provision of health facilities and services, development of sustainable agricultural income-generating activities, education and training, environmental development programmes, which will lead to a sustainable and stable improvement on the living standard of individuals and communities. SOPISDEW began operations in Oku in the North West Region of Cameroon in 2010 with a team of 5 Volunteers. Our original emphasis was on volunteering for Community Education Development. By 2012 we diversified into a wide range of activities including: Water, Sanitation and Health (WASH), Agriculture, Environment, Energy and Nature Conservation, AEENC), Tourism: Cultural and Ecotourism (TCE), Human Rights, Good Governance and Conflict Management (HRGGCM), Education and Capacity Building (ECB), Youth Empowerment and Volunteering (YEV), Information and Communication Technology (ICT). SOPISDEW’s objectives are: -To create an enabling volunteering environment in view of tacking community development challenges - To promote local initiatives through direction of strategic humanitarian resources for community development - To promote and protect the cultural and natural heritage of rural and indigenous communities - To promote human rights, peace, justice and the rule of law in local communities
